Top 5 Folk Albums of 2009

From CD Baby Folk Editor, Peter – These are my favorite albums, in no particular order.
1. Sara K. – Made in the Shade – http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/sarak11
A deft combination of latter day Joni Mitchell-esque songwriting and the plushest, loveliest mix you can imagine.
2. Anne & Pete Sibley – Coming Home – http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/sibley4
Fans of acoustic roots music from Gillian Welch, Alison Krauss, and Emmylou Harris. Gorgeous male/female harmonies abound.
3. Josh Garrels – Jacaranda – http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/joshgarrels2
An album with the same genius and diversity as Sufjan Stevens or folkier Rufus Wainwright.
4. Lesley Kernochan – The Pickle Jar – http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/kernochan2
If you like your piano folk/pop tasty like Fiona Apple, Norah Jones and with some Regina Spektor and a bit of lounge jazz thrown in for good measure, then check out this album.
5. Aaron Strumpel – Elephants – http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/aaronstrumpel
“If Nine Inch Nails sang the Psalms and invited avant-garde jazzbos, The Art Ensemble of Chicago, to the studio, it might sound like this”. Wildly creative & sublime.
Did I miss something? Is there a folk album you love? Tell me about it in the comments, please.
